Employment under J-1 Visa
Certain aliens entering the United States under a J-1 classification are authorized to engage in employment. These requirements among others are generally outlined in detail in the program description. The positions for a J-1 may vary from a research scientist to a nanny. There are also certain programs that do not authorize their participants to work. As such it is advisable that J-1 holders carefully review their program descriptions before engaging in any employment. The participating agencies in the J-1 program should be able to provide the aliens with the required information with respect to any restrictions to employment among other things.
